About
The First Southern Baptist Church of Provo was founded in the spring of 1948. Several families gathered together after placing a newspaper advertisement in the Provo Daily Herald.
Word spread rapidly to others, and by July a Vacation Bible School was held by lay people from Arizona. A survey of Provo was done during the afternoon, and a Revival was held nightly. The Church was organized at the close of the special services with eighteen(18) charter members. The church met in the Odd Fellows Lodge at 80 North University Avenue.
Rev. Nolan Beaird was called to be the first pastor.
Early members were: L.C. Goad, the superintendant of the Sunday School, and his wife Bessie; Mr. and Mrs. Wood; Robert L. Warren, wife Lucille who worked with the youth; and Lewis Warren, son, who has served as a Deacon in the church in these latter years; W.O. Scott and his wife Nona; Guy Overman; Herman Prather; B.B. Glasgow.
